Position Summary
New product & process design & development and support of existing products as needed. Hours are typically first shift but some support at other hours may be required at times.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- To lead smaller development programs with direction from one or more senior engineering staff, considering all technical aspects required to bring given programs to commercial success
- Conceive, design, and develop new products and processes through engineering analysis, prototyping, risk assessment, and qualification testing from the earliest concept to release to manufacturing
- Design tools, prototypes, and equipment needed for new product or customer product programs
- Coordinate qualifications eventually leading to release to manufacturing
- Design and lead experiments to confirm/uncover or resolve design questions
- Assemble, test and troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment
- Create manufacturing documentation for new products and processes
- Evaluate, document, and implement design or process changes to improve performance, manufacturability, safety, and/or cost of existing products/processes with associated tooling/equipment
- Other miscellaneous tasks as may be assigned from time to time

Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in an Engineering (or Engineering Technology) field
- Mechanical engineering is preferred, but other disciplines will also be considered
- At least 3 – 5 years of demonstrated engineering experience
- Knowledge of materials and equipment used in plastic part fabrication
- Some knowledge of plastic part fabrication techniques (common forming/sealing methods & equipment), thermoforming is particularly valuable
- Knowledge of machine design, simple electrical design, and understanding of common manufacturing practices
- Familiarity with commonly used engineering systems, methods of analysis, and business tools
- Simple computer skills; Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. with the ability to learn new ones
- Proficient in Solidworks 3D CAD software
- Knowledge of drawing standards (geometric tolerancing, etc.)
- Experience with CNC machining and/or manual machining desired but not required
- Air and motor vehicle travel (either in the US or internationally) when required (<5% of the time)
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift 30 pounds without help of equipment, but using proper lifting techniques
- Able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, and crouch/kneel (for short periods) To have sufficient visual acuity (with correction if necessary) to see small parts, part defects, and read computer monitors/documentation
- Able to work in conditions of high heat and humidity above 90 degrees F for several hours at a time
- Able to sit for several hours at a time when performing design work or doing data analysis
- Must be able to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
